Resolutions

By Carole Herder

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a joyous festive season and are looking forward to a great year ahead. I know I am, with plenty planned.

Has anyone made some New Year’s resolutions? The most common ones around the globe seem to be to get fit, lose weight or give up smoking. But for us horsey people, sometimes it is a little different (although I would like to be as fit as my horse!).

Check out the following video – how about achieving this?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4X13Fjhp84. A little ambitious? Not at all. It is good to have something to aim for, even if you don’t manage it this year!

One thing I often hear from people is that they want to spend more time with their horse. Our busy lives full of work, families and other commitments sometimes mean our horses get a little neglected in the riding/training department. Even if you can’t fit more riding time in, how about an extra fifteen minutes grooming once a week, or a thirty minute lead rein walk down the road to get some nice grass?

Or maybe you want to do something a little more dramatic and this year is finally going to be the year to remove those shoes!! Sometimes it is hard to make big decisions like this and the time never seems right, but just DO IT. Do it for your horse and do it for yourself. And while you are at it, treat yourself to a pair of Cavallo hoof boots to help you through the transition (and wash away any January blues!). Then you can keep riding while doing something wonderful for your horse.
