Cavallo Keeps You Safe during Hunting Season

Hunting season is upon us, which means you need to take extra precautions when heading into the woods with your horse. These tips can help both you and your horses stay safe during your trail rides.

Find Out Where Hunting Is Permitted

Find out where hunting is permitted. Many conservation lands allow hunting, so chances are that you may encounter hunters in the areas where you ride. Be sure to familiarize yourself with areas where hunting is permitted and choose your trail ride locations carefully during hunting season and make sure you have all required horse equipment.

Keep Track of Your Local Hunting Seasonshunting-in-hoof-boots

Check in with your state’s department of fish and wildlife to find out the dates of your state’s hunting seasons.
Make a chart of these dates that you can keep in your barn for easy reference. Many states prohibit hunting on Sundays, so Sundays may be a good day for you to trail ride on Sunday.

Wear Plenty of Blaze Orange

When you do go riding, make sure that you and your horse are
equipped with plenty of blaze orange. You can wear a vest, sweater, or jacket, and it’s a good idea to invest in a quarter sheet and/or breastplate for your horse.

Attach Bells to Your Horse’s Tack

When you’re riding during a hunting season, you’ll want to make your presence known. Attaching bells to your horse’s tack is a good way to ensure that you’ll be heard as you travel along. Just be sure to acclimate your horse to the sound of the bells before you actually
attach them. We like to hook bells on our Cavallo Hoof Boots because moving feet generate the most sound and are furthest away from your horse’s sensitive ears.

Travel in Groups and Talk Loudly

It’s always a good idea to trail ride in a group, and hunting season is no exception. If possible, ride out with a buddy, and talk loudly as you ride.

Stick to the Trails

Lastly, don’t forget to always stay on the marked trails when riding during hunting season. This isn’t a time when you want to go straying into the woods to explore.

With some precautions, you can help to keep yourself and your horse safe while still being able to enjoy the trails. And, as always use Cavallo Horse Boots to be safe, comfortable and protected. When your horse is safe, you are. Have a great ride!
