"I have tried every pad on the market to help relieve stress from bad-fitting saddles. Aside from a custom fit saddle, using two 1-inch thick wool felt pads was the best solution until we tried the Cavallo pad. Sore backs in the middle of the spine is common in jumpers upon landing when the saddle gives and the rider's weight comes down in the middle of the horse's back. The Cavallo pad performed equally or better than the wool pads we had been using to reduce saddle pressure on the spine of several Grand Prix jumpers. The horses stopped getting "strong" after the fences when their backs no longer hurt on landing. I am recommending my clients try this pad first to determine if the saddle is indeed causing the behavioral issues such as "teeth grinding", "pulling", "hurrying" or "bucking" which is so commonly linked to sore back in horses. I just love my Cavallo Western All-Purpose Saddle Pad! I use the same pad on both my Tennessee Walker and my Quarter Horse; it's unusual that you can use one pad that fits so well on different breeds. Right now I use the Nitrex side against the horses; the saddle doesn't move or roll from side to side when I'm mounting. I can ride for hours and my horse stays comfortable. Then the pad bounces right back into shape and adjusts to the next horse.
I'm very particular about using clean saddle pads, not just for me but because the horses can feel the dirt. My Cavallo pad is so easy to clean. I just wipe the Nitrex side down with a cloth for immediate use or hose it down and it dries quickly. I've bought a lot of different and expensive saddle pads over the years and have never found one that I like so much as the Cavallo Saddle Pad! I'm very satisfied.

I represented Canada at the World Equestrian games in Germany in August of 2006. I had been sponsored by Cavallo with a Total Comfort System Endurance saddle pad and would not go with anything else now. My horse in the past has had a bit of back tenderness after a 100 mile race. Since I have been using the Cavallo pad he is very happy. He used to buck and hunch his back taking off on a ride and now he is so calm and smooth. I love that it also supports his shoulders and that the pad is very thin. The wool back on it is very therapeutic for the back. I would never go back to my other pads. "Saddles are not a natural extension of a horse and even a good-fitting saddle can become painful or irritating in spite of the best-intentioned rider. Gel pads seems to squeeze the pressure ventrally (down) the back and because there is no gullet relief, can do more harm than good. I currently ride two horses with my Cavallo Saddle Pad and I love the feel it has on them. I can tell what my horse is doing a lot better than when I rode with a regular saddle pad. After I received my pad I rode my horse in it for a month to get use to it, then I rode him in the Coombs Bull-O-Rama and I ended up being the 2004 Champion. I now ride my new horse in it, and he performs better with it, as he gets very hot and sweaty as he works, and the pad keeps him cool.
