Out on the Trail with Cavallo

Here are two pictures of my lovely 14-yr-old Peruvian mare, RJC Andanza, “Annie”, at the ACTHA ride at Estrella Mountain Park on February 15, 2014.

I made the decision to use hoof boots rather than shoes, and it has been a good experience. I have discovered that with “Annie”, if using only boots on the front, it interfered with her gait. However, by also using boots on the rear hooves, the problem was solved. I also use and highly recommend the gel inserts. She wears size 2 boots on the front and 1 on the rear. The gel inserts give me extra peace of mind that her feet will be well-protected from our rocky terrain. The boots are easy to put on, and they *stay on through every imaginable surface challenge.
